OPEC currently produces about 22 million barrels of oil per day. As long as global GDP growth stays near 3.9 percent, there is little reason for OPEC to increase production of oil if those countries import OPEC's oil. News reports cite OPEC delegates claiming an interest in lower oil prices due to flight from oil and the effect of high oil prices on the global economy, but there is room to speculate on whether or not this is the real position of OPEC and not just words from OPEC delegates.
